Google Checkout Delivers Headbutt to Affiliates

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

Geckout is running a promotion with Timberland. The discount is 40% plus free ground shipping.

This is different than previous Geckout coupons in three ways:
1) Whereas earlier coupons were $$ off, this one is a percentage off.
2) Whereas earlier coupons were one dimensional, dollars off, this is a two-pronged coupon; free shipping plus a 40% discount.
3) When you click the Timberland logo on the Geckout merchant page, there is a customized landing page that displays the promotion. If you do not come in from Geckout, there is a regular landing page without the promotion.

I do not know if Timberland affiliates received the 40% + FS promo. However, there are a bunch of Timberland affiliates who are actively promoting the same deal; just with a different coupon code.

In fact, I conducted a search for “timberland coupon” and sure enough, you can see affiliates competing with Google Checkout.

News, Bits & Pieces

Yahoo attempts to create buzz. Like Zeitgeist. In Canadian search currency. What do Best Buy, Chevrolet, Coca-Cola Zero, T-Mobile USA, Inc. and WaMu all have in common? All of them have caught the AOL reality bug.

Best Buy gets financially flattered thanks to flattening. Howard Stern gets pummeled by Hitwise.

Bluefly and InStyle make nice. And give away shoes. Banana Republic & Hotjobs give you the chance for a $15,000 wardrobe boost.

Geckout is delighted to offer you another two merchants from GSI Commerce. And Jockey.com is a guest bra-ger on Google Checkout blog.

Bite Me

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

At first, I wanted to call this post, News Bite(s) Me. As in, News Bites + Bite me. However, this did not work out. So, I went with the simplistic trite expression of “bite me”.

Jcrew is promoting suits for women. Business suits. Not bathing suits. I know this for a fact. Link. PLUS, they sent me an email to keep me in the know.

Battle Media launched a digg prototype for the search industry. This is a post from my other blog (shameful self-promotion).

Yahoo offers a gridiron benefit to expatriates. You can move out and still get the NFL!

Google Checkout offers more stores. Actually, these stores were part of Geckout from day one. These shops just took a long, long time to go live.

In other Geckout news, another merchant has good things to say. The merchant is also happy to be quoted. I am getting weak knees just from blogging about this!

Google Checkout & Froogle Embrace!

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

Good Tuesday. Just some personal information between you and the three other loyal readers of my blog; it’s 1PM and I just rolled out of bed. I am so ashamed. And the bed bugs do bite.

The big news of the (yester)day is that Google Checkout has finally decided to work in tandem with a shopping engine called…FROOGLE! Wait a minute. I just realized that Google Checkout & Froogle are part of the same company! Not sure what the delay was all about, but again, this is a wise move. Google Checkout Blog Post.

FYI, this concept, the alignment of Google Checkout and Froogle is something I suggested over a month and a half ago! This is from my revenews blog (07/27/06): Also, while Google is promoting checkout on their homepage, I am surprised there is NO mention of google checkout on the Froogle homepage! (which of course is STILL in beta :-)

Anyways, it’s a good thing for Checkout; adding exposure to a new audience & giving Geckout merchants a leg-up on Froogle.

Enjoy the screen shots. It gives you a clear picture of what this partnership means. Basically, if you froogle a product, the results will show you which merchants use Geckout to sell this product.

Google Checkout Update

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Good Thursday. Things have slightly changed over at Google Checkout, or as I affectionately call it” Geckout“. Just noticed several enhancements

1) The merchant page has been modified. As more, smaller-sized, merchants sign up to offer Google Checkout, the page has been formatted to accommodate everyone.

With the additional merchant listings taking up more real estate, the bigger merchants, up on top, have had their logos shrunk. Who knows? Maybe Google will make a Disney movie called “Honey, I shrunk the logos.”

2) More merchants have been added to the Google Checkout roster. For example, in the Jewelry & Watches categoryLuvCharlie, TimeZone123 & Wedding Bands Fast. For Google’s sake and for the customers sake, let’s hope Google stops delaying the release of orders. Otherwise, the latter merchant will have to change their name to weddingbandnotsofast.com.

3) While the BIG merchants have undergone google shrinkage, there have been a few more merchants added to the top/logo segment of the page. These include PBS & G.I. JOES.

FYI, these two merchants also belong to the GSI family. In fact, so do the majority of the bigger brand named merchants. (See screen shot.)

The Unfoaming of Starbucks on Google Checkout

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

The other day I noticed that Geckout had molested (for lack of worser word) the Starbucks logo. I blogged and took a screen shot. Guess what? The problem has been fixed!

Starbucks is now exuding with lucidity. And just writing about them makes me realize how badly I need my second LARGE cup of coffee!

There has also been a new sighting in the Official Google Checklout Blog. Codes have been published! They say that good things come to those who wait.

Ebay & Google, Hug, Kiss and Make Merry

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Big news. I am sure you already know about it. Google and Ebay, have agreed to work together. How sweet?!

Ebay will list Google ad listings, outside the USA. Of course, the ads will be relevant.
With the current state of foreign & domestic policy, I am a big fan, expect the targeted ads to say ” Hate the USA? Click here.” Or “Want to Live Illegally in the States?”

The deal also involves the “click to call” feature.

My question is, with Ebay & Google now joint at the hip, will Ebay agree to accept Google Checkout? Geckout is still listed as a Payment Service not permitted on eBay.

However, now that it’s all one big happy family….

Geckout Screws Up Starbucks Logo

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Google Checkout is high. Not sure on what. But the Geckout folks are certainly puffing on the good stuff.First, Levi’s pulls down their trousers from Google Checkout.

Then the GCSI (google checkout shopping icon) starts showing up in places it does not belong.

And now I notice that Geckout has fuzzied-up the Starbucks Store logo. Can someone please notify the people @ Starbucks Corporation (Public, NASDAQ:SBUX)

A few more of these erratic Google Checout incidents and we’re going to have to make a group intervention!

SportsCloseouts.com Granted 15 Minutes of Google Fame

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

No doubt left in my mind. Google Checkout does not stand a chance, at least in 2006.
The latest Google Checkout blog entry: From the field: SportsCloseouts.com on Checkout

15 minutes of much needed fame is always appreciated. 1,307,008. I had know ideas Alexa.com ratings went that high low.

This brand-new lousy blog has an alexa rating way better that that!

Geckout Launches Affiliate Program

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Google checkout is increasing their push for merchants to adapt to Geckout. Case in point, in addition to offering free marketing exposure to merchants, Google is also offering an affiliate program for Google Checkout. Of course they don’t refer to it as an affiliate. But if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…then Google is no doubt quacking away.

This from the Official Google Checkout blog:
One year of payment for every merchant you sign up plus a percentage of these merchants’ Google Checkout sales.

Nice! What’s next on the geckout marketing plan? A chance to win a back rub from Larry Page?
